Our mission
Harnessing the power of discovery to tackle cancer’s most complex challenges.
A new era of discovery
What will it take to transform our understanding of cancer? To push boundaries? And to move beyond incremental improvements in how we prevent, diagnose and treat cancer?
It’s within our reach. But first, we need to tackle many of the most intractable problems standing in the way of progress.
Founded by:
Amplifying potential
Cancer Grand Challenges is a global funding platform founded in 2020 by the two largest funders of cancer research in the world: Cancer Research UK and the National Cancer Institute in the US.
This partnership builds on the success of Cancer Research UK’s Grand Challenge, launched in 2015 and currently supporting 7 multidisciplinary teams across 9 countries.
By daring global teams of multidisciplinary researchers to come together and think differently, we can find bold new solutions to challenges which have confounded scientists for many years.
Building a global network
To drive a step change in cancer research, we need to be ambitious. The challenges blocking our progress demand global team science and funding on an unprecedented scale: we need to rethink our approach and usher in a new era of discovery.
With collective support from global funders, partners and philanthropists who share our aspirations, we have the power to create change. Together we can galvanise the world’s scientific community – freeing them from constraints to inspire their scientific creativity.
We’ve witnessed great progress. But complex challenges still stand. It’s time to come together, think differently and create change.
The world’s most
eminent scientists
It starts by asking ‘What are the biggest problems
in cancer science?’ And then galvanising the global
scientific community to collaborate across different
specialisms on an unprecedented scale and create
new ways to solve them.
Meet our Scientific Committee responsible for
setting our Cancer Grand Challenges.
Putting patients at the
heart of our work
It is imperative that the work we do translates
into tangible impact. Meet our Advocacy Panel
ensuring that those affected by cancer are involved
and positively impacted by the research we do.
Our Pioneering partnerships
From individual donors to global funders, our work
wouldn’t be possible without the collective support
of those who share our aspiration to create change.
